I am not a Star Wars fan. I don’t remember watching any Star Wars movie growing up. When my husband decided to have a movie marathon of Star Wars, it was my eldest son who had the patience to watch the movies with him. It was also my eldest son who went to the cinema with him to watch the latest Star Wars movie. That’s how my eldest son became a Star Wars fan.
Then, he requested that Star Wars be the theme for his 8th birthday celebration. I told him that we will not have a party anymore since it’s his 8th birthday already. I said that it will be much different from his 7th birthday celebration (wherein he had many guests and a big party. He had a recital and solo piano concert last year for his 7th birthday! You can read about it here. I told him that it will be a simple fellowship with his friends from the children’s choir and close friends from the parish (who were mostly adults by the way).
I was geared to make it as simple as possible. But I also wanted to make it special so that my son and his friends would really enjoy it.
I began researching for ideas to make our simple Star Wars celebration special without breaking the bank. I found many ideas on the internet. Pinterest became one of my close friends in the past weeks and days leading to his birthday. I found a lot of ideas on how to creatively name the party food and drinks. I thought that these simple details would put a smile on our son’s and guests’ faces. It turned out to be a hit with them! I also had so much fun making up names for the party food and drinks. Days before my son’s birthday, he and his younger brother Mateo kept on laughing every time they remember the names that I have given to the party food and drinks. Days after the celebration (which happened last Saturday, October 15), the kids are still laughing, giggling as they mention the names I gave to our party food and drinks last weekend. Let me share these details with you.
I also printed some Star Wars masks that the guests can use for the photo ops. We made a simple backdrop cum photo wall. I initially wanted to outsource this and the happy birthday buntings. Sadly, my supplier got sick. It was a good thing that my mom and her friend helped me find the materials needed to make this simply backdrop and finish all the cut outs.
I ordered Star Wars-themed cake and cupcakes from the same supplier I got last year for my youngest son’s One Year Old in a Flash birthday. I’m glad that they were able to execute my instructions. The cake and cupcakes arrived early as well so I had ample time to get the food and drinks table ready. I plan to get them again for my second child’s birthday celebration next month.
I got the cupcake toppers from this link. I shared it with my cake and cupcake supplier and asked them to use these. We bought a Luke Skywalker toy for our son as one of his birthday gifts. Then, we used it as the cake topper.
I had shirts and onesies customized for my boys and husband. I searched the internet also for ideas and gave my ideas to my trusted supplier of customized shirts and onesies, My Little Ikbi. My husband and kids were happy to get these and to wear them during the birthday celebration.
I printed a Jedi Knight Certificate for my eldest son which I got from this blog.
I made a quick Star Wars invitation. I didn’t have much time to really prepare for this celebration because I had a series of parenting talks in the past weeks. Around a week before my son’s birthday, I just texted the message to our friends.
I ordered and bought most of the party food and drinks. I ordered from another trusted food service, Amber. I bought the other party food and drinks from the grocery. I was planning to cook the chicken nuggets and mini burgers myself but I was not yet finished with the decors and other things. I am so blessed that my mom went to our place to help me out. She cooked these for me.
I rented a couple of long tables and extra chairs from a party company inside our village.
Last but not least, I bought new curtains, throw pillow covers and tablecloth to match our color motif.
I had so much fun thinking of names for the food and drinks. I also felt fulfilled in setting up a nice food and drinks table for the celebration. It may be simple but it was definitely a labor of love from me and my mom for our little Jedi.
The smile on his face and the faces of our guests that day made all the hard work worth it!
I added these signages for extra humor. 😉
Now, I’m planning for my second son’s 5th birthday celebration and my youngest son’s 2nd birthday celebration next month! Watch out for these in my future blog posts!
