I feel like I’m walking on cloud 9 these days. My big dreams are coming true one after the other!
Last Monday, I started my book donation and public school tour when we visited Baclaran Elementary School Unit 1 in Paranaque City. 100 Grade 2 female students received their own copy of my latest children’s book, Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay.
This would not be possible if not for the generosity of my family and friends who supported me and helped me make this dream come true.
My husband and kids were with me, as usual. I’m so grateful that my kids are homeschooled. Thus, they get to join me in my events. They get to see firsthand the kind of work that I do. I hope that they get inspiration from my work and they learn to be compassionate and generous through my example.
My mother was also with us. This was special to me because my mother inspired one of the characters in my story, Aling Tess, the mother of Isay. I was happy to introduce her to the teachers/coordinators and the students.
Our storytelling session was scheduled at 1:30 PM. It was terribly hot that afternoon. I was sweating the whole time. But my heart was filled with joy because the kids and the school coordinators gave me a warm welcome.
The kids were participative. They also gave good answers to the discussion questions that I asked after I read them the story.
Some of the answers the kids gave when I asked them what lessons they learned from the story of Isay are the following:
“Magsikap.” (Work hard.)
“Mag-aral ng mabuti.” (Study well.)
“Makinig sa payo ng magu
lang.” (Listen to the advice of your parents.”)
“Ingatan ang mga gamit.” (Take care of your things.)
I also asked them what qualities of Isay that they liked and would like to emulate.
One child said, “Hindi siya nahihiya kahit luma ang gamit.” (She’s not ashamed even if her things were not brand new.” I like that answer.
I want to teach kids that they should not be ashamed to reuse and recycle their things… that it’s actually good for the environment and that it helps their family save money.
They were surprised when I told them that Maliit na ang Palda ni Isay was inspired by life story and that I am Isay.
I gave them a short inspirational talk after I revealed this to them.
Then, the kids lined up to get their free signed copy of my children’s book.
Once more, they were excited.
I was exhausted after the activity but it was well worth it!
I find it fulfilling that I was able to inspire, teach and empower 100 children.
Like what our National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal said, the youth is the hope of our motherland.
I want to give the youth of our land inspiration and hope. I want to help shape their young minds and hearts. I want to help raise future heroes, noble men and women who will eventually do their share of making not just our country a better place to live in but the whole world… wherever they would be led and planted.
This is just the start of our public school tour and book donation drive. We continue to seek generous individuals, groups and companies who are willing to support our advocacy on education and the environment.
Our next donation this month will be for the Mangyan children because October is not only Children’s Month but also Indigenous People’s Month.
The next public school that we will visit is MGV Elementary School.
I declare that we would not only go around Metro Manila but we will go around the Philippines to touch more hearts and make a difference in the lives of more public school children.
Here is the video of the highlights of our school tour.
Do you also want to help our country? Do you want to be a blessing to the less privileged? Do you want to do some charitable work this Christmas season?
I invite you to check out our advocacy and donate to our cause. You may read more details here.
I would also like to thank One Resonance Photography and Multimedia for sponsoring the photo coverage of our school tour.
