The new school year is just a few months away. Many parents are on the lookout for possible education options again for their children. There are fewer COVID-19 restrictions now than last year, but parents are still careful and want to make sure that their children are not exposed to a lot of risks even as they continue to get an education.
Thus, I am happy to share about Schola de Vita’s Flexi-Collab Homeschool Program. In their homeschool program, parents have 2 options that they can choose from: the Guided Curriculum and the Open Curriculum. In both programs, students have the opportunity to experience an education that is progressive, authentic, child-centered and engaging (P.A.C.E.). Both options also provide the parents with opportunities to bond and make many memories with their children by being actively involved in their education since parents will be the ones teaching their children at home.
Let me share the details and highlights of the 2 homeschool options offered by the school through these photos.
You will notice that most of the features are the same. Now, how do these 2 options differ?
The main difference is that in the Guided Curriculum, the students have a set material and weekly schedule that they need to follow throughout the school year. The school makes it easy for the parent-teacher to educate his/her child at home by providing this kind of support. In the Open Curriculum, the students and their parents have more freedom in deciding how to achieve the learning goals of the students although the school provides a quarterly guide and materials. They may opt to use materials and do activities that were not recommended by the school, but they think and feel would be more helpful to the child in accomplishing his goals.
Another difference is in how the students are graded. In both options, the school’s teachers grade the students, but the basis for their grades differs. In the Guided Curriculum, students are graded through tests; while in the Open Curriculum, students are graded based on their quarterly portfolio presentations. These portfolios provide a summary or show highlights of what was learned and done by the student in the past quarter. The parents can assist their children in preparing their portfolios. However, it will be the child who will present it. The child can exercise his creativity in presenting his portfolio for the quarter.
Another unique feature of the Guided Curriculum is that it has 2 options that parents and students can choose from. One option allows the students to go to school twice a week for face-to-face assessment and socialization. The other option includes joining Zoom for online assessments and school-wide online programs.
You might ask: Which option is better?
The answer varies from family to family. What works for one family or one student may not work for another family or student. It is, therefore, imperative that you know the child or the student’s needs and preferences, and you know your strengths and limitations as a parent-teacher.
Do you want or need a weekly guide that you will just implement? Do you want your child to have face-to-face interaction or does your child want face-to-face interaction even for 2 days each week? Do you live in Las Pinas or relatively near Las Pinas? Then, the Guided Curriculum may be best for your family.
Do you want the freedom to shift from time to time in using different kinds of materials and want some kind of spontaneity in your homeschool? Do you want to use portfolios instead as the basis for your child’s grades instead of traditional tests? The Open Curriculum may be the right fit for your family.
Below are the requirements for new students who will enroll with Schola de Vita.
Schola de Vita will have a Virtual Open House on April 15, Saturday, at 10 AM via Zoom. You can learn more about their Flexi-Collab Homeschool Program, what kind of support they provide homeschooling families, and ask your questions when you attend. Click here to register for this online event.
Their tuition fee from pre-school to Grade 6 ranges from P23,000 to P40,000. They have options to pay the tuition in installments. They give sibling discounts as well.
Once you decide to enroll your child with them, you need to fill up a form and request a quotation of the tuition fee for the grade level of your child. The Accounting Office will be the one to email you this. After paying the down payment or tuition, you need to submit the requirements and your proof of payment to them before the school will send the receipt and the Certificate of Enrollment via email.
Now if you want more options for your child’s education like purely online or a mixture of online classes with face-to-face classes, Schola de Vita offers these modalities, too. Just head to their Facebook page and send them an email or contact the numbers posted there.
Let me end by sharing some of the testimonials from parents who enrolled their kids in this school.
It has been two weeks since we started homeschooling in our new school — Schola de Vita. Homeschooling is also new to us. I was really impressed by how supportive SDV is to us. Not just a curriculum provider but a partner in my children’s education which I know and I feel we can do homeschooling positively and blissfully. The teachers and staff are accommodating. I thank God for SDV!

You will never go wrong with Schola de Vita! Our offline class – nursery preschool was all worth it. The tuition fee is at a reasonable cost with a flexible installment payment method as well. I’m a working mom, currently on a work-at-home status, and sometimes out on the field. Schola de Vita helped me with my preschool nursery student to catch up with schooling without missing this year’s school year due to the pandemic. I highly recommend Schola de Vita to my fellow busy working moms to try their offline classes, too! Definitely fun, great mother-child bonding and your kids will learn!
