Once a upon a time, I dreamed of having my own business. I dreamed that it was about something I love doing. Then, one day, that dream came true… Not instantaneously, but over time. Let me share a bit of my entrepreneur story.
I was still a single, working professional when I started my first business. I was working full time as a Training Manager for a multinational company. I was busy travelling locally and abroad giving trainings and workshops.
But while I was busy, the fire in my heart to start something that I can someday call my own kept burning inside me.
The first business that I started was related on one of my passions: speaking.
I love connecting with people and meeting people. I love making a difference to people’s lives through the talks, trainings and workshops that I give. I love inspiring and encouraging people to improve themselves and realize their full potential. I find fulfillment every time I learn that someone I have taught or someone who listened to my story or talk experienced a promotion or break through. I feel ecstatic whenever someone tells me that what he/she learned from my training or workshop has brought wonderful results in his/her life when he/she applied it.
So, I started accepting speaking invitations while I was still working. I did these speaking engagements during weekends only. My regular job back then entailed that I work from Monday to Friday only most days. That gave me freedom to do my business part-time or during weekends.
My other passion is writing. It has been one of my favorite hobbies since I was a child. When I was a child, one of my dreams was to publish a book that would make a difference in the lives of those who will read it. That dream has been fulfilled many times over through the books I have published over the years.
It started when one day, I got a powerful inspiration to write a book about my life as a single lady without a boyfriend. I wanted to encourage and inspire other women like me to wait patiently for their anointed bridegroom and to wait for marriage at the right time and to marry for the right reasons… not out of desperation or fear.
Thus, I wrote and published my first book and started my publishing business while still employed. Below is a photo of the front cover of my very first book.
Years later, I’ve decided to do my consulting and publishing business full time!
So, do you now know what the most important ingredient is in building your own business?
PASSION!
Your business should be based on your passion. It has to be based on something that burns inside of you even in the most difficult of circumstances. It has to be something that you remain passionate about even after experiencing countless disappointments and failures. It has to be something you are not willing to give up or else a part of you will die.
