After studying the human body in the past months, I’ve decided to introduce the different time periods to our boys. We started learning about dinosaurs and the Ice Age. These lessons were inspired by the movies we watched with them. We had been watching the Ice Age movies as our way of bonding with each other in the past weekends that we were home. The next Ice Age movie that the kids want us to watch is titled Collision Course. The kids find it very funny. So, even though I do not recommend it 100% (there are words that some characters uttered that are not appropriate for children), we still watched the series of movies. I just had to remind the boys that we don’t use those words.
Anyway, I was thrilled when I learned about this exhibit because it was timely for our homeschool lessons again! I felt like the universe is helping me homeschool my children.
I initially planned to bring them to the first leg of the exhibit in Alabang Town Center. But our schedule was tight and I just hoped we could go to the Glorietta run. Good thing that we also needed to someplace last week and we needed to pick up our pictures at The Picture Company as well. So, it was a perfect time for us to drop by the exhibit, too.
It was a weekday, a Wednesday when we went. It was a little past 5 PM when we bought our tickets. Their staff told us that the tour has started. We have to wait for the 6 PM time slot. Thus, we went to our favorite hang out place first. Guess where we went? We went to the bookstore!
From the bookstore, we grabbed a bite and went to the exhibit.
We were informed that the exhibit area was covered and that I can’t bring my baby with me. If I bring him with me, I will have to pay for his ticket, too. So, I left him with my mom who was with us that day instead and they had dinner while the older boys and I went to the exhibit.
It was a good thing that I left the baby with my mom. The tickets are quite pricey. But we were lucky that day because they had a promo and instead of the original price of P650, we got our tickets at P350 each. That includes the guided tour plus the storytelling minus the mammoth-making activity. That’s okay with us because we were actually rushing to go home. That was the day before our trip to Baguio and we have yet to pack our things.
We found out that we were the only ones touring during the 6 PM time slot. Wow! It was like we booked an exclusive tour! 😉 I think that’s one of the benefits of being homeschoolers and having a flexible work schedule. I could just imagine how crowded the place would be on a weekend. We had the whole place to ourselves!
There were 25 giant prehistoric animatronics on display. They did a good job in trying to make these animals come alive for the people who went to the exhibit. There were fun facts also displayed beside these animatronics. The two tour guides took turns explaining these to us.
Honestly, there were times when my two kids’ attention would wander. I guess there was too much information being shared and my kids were not ready for these kinds of details yet. They were just happy to listen to a few and then they had fun touching and inspecting the animatronics of these Ice Age giants. I was not also following all the details being shared by our guide. I think it would have been more helpful if they give out flyers or brochures to us with the fun facts in them. Then, we can use these as part of our review or lessons when we get home.
But since there were none, what I did was download some of the fun facts shared on their Facebook page and I will use them for our review of the things we heard and learned during our field trip.
Also, we didn’t like that one of the tour guides smelled strongly of cigarettes. I guess that was one reason we didn’t like to come near him. My kids and I are very sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke. It was a good thing that my kids were distracted by the display. Otherwise, they could have pointed it and mentioned it out loud. The tour operators should have been strict with these since the exhibit is mainly for kids. The smoke residue clings to the smoker’s hair, clothes and body. One could smell the stench even from a distance. And that is still 30% of the toxins that are harmful to those who can inhale them.
At the end our the tour, there was a storytelling session for the kids. Then, a mammoth mascot appeared.
We were done in less than an hour and we were happy to be reunited with our baby Geordan who was waiting outside the exhibit area when we came out.
If you plan to see this exhibit too, it has it’s last leg at Trinoma Mall until October 9.
